Arts for all ages
PICA
Portland Institute for Contemporary Arts (PICA)
offers opportunities to participate with local artists.
When most people hear the words “arts education,” they imagine an elementary school art class, or a middle school symphonic band, or perhaps a high school theater production. But do you know about the wealth of opportunities for adults to take part in the arts?

Arts education classes and events of many types can be relevant to all of us. We all have opportunities to stretch in ways we’ve never before considered. Art activities are a wonderful way to do just that, and many of our supported arts and culture organizations offer a variety of options that may tickle your fancy.

Perhaps you’d like to try your hand—or, feet—at ballet? The Portland Ballet offers adult open classes 7 days a week, all with live piano accompaniment. Or maybe percussion is more your thing? Portland Taiko offers you the chance to bang the drums most days—with a heaping of culture on the side. From theater classes at Lakewood Center for the Arts, to an array of community visual arts lessons at Oregon Collage of Art and Craft, to Write Around Portland’s workshops for professional and aspiring writers, there’s bound to be something for you!
